Paediatric 1st aid training for parents

I work with young children and have 2 under 3 myself. Im no strsnger to the odd cough or something tickling the throat. I have my peadiatric 1st aid training purley because of working with children. You never think your going to need to actually use this. Least of all on your own children. My youngest recently choked at home on what I can only presume to be the most minute piece of fluff as we hoover every day. She stopped breathing twice through choking. I believe if it wasn't for the fact that I was already aware of what to do I would have been a lot panicker and the paramedics may have been dealing with a whole new situation. Thankfully by the time the paramedics arrived little one had managed to dislodge what ever it was through vigorous back slapping and tilted positioning.

I'd love the idea of antenatal classes offering paediatric 1st aid training compulsory or for there to be a way to make paediatric 1st aid training compulsory for parents. I'm not saying it's going to make you a paramedic but in the worst possible event it may at least make you more relaxed about the situation whilst seeking professional services help knowing you may be able to help.
