We all want to mark the passing of a loved one. Some choose to plant a tree, a rose or maybe buy a bench. Some are happy just to remember in their own way.  Some want to tell the world how sad they are and for them to physically see how many people are sad for their loss too. These people might choose to release balloons or sky lanterns. 

But what the may not realise that the balloons and sky lanterns (even though they look pretty) can cause no end of problems to wildlife on land, sea and air. No where is safe from SKY LITTER. 

The are already laws in place that should prevent balloon releases, unfortunately, these laws don’t seem to work in the case balloon releases and sky lantern releases because no one wants to upset the recently bereaved. 

What is needed is a law banning the advertising and sharing of such events. I’ve seen local newspapers and News groups of Facebook promoting these events with headlines such as “Turn the sky blue for … “. It cannot be right to encourage littering, whatever the reason.
