sophie cooke started this petition to British government

As a newly self employed beautician I have been effected by coronavirus as well as many other people/ businesses in the UK.

Although local councils have helped where they can i feel those of us who are newly self emoloyed have fallen through the net and have been left with little or no financial support through the virus. It is hard enough to start your own business without the virus putting extra strain on it.

At the moment you can't apply for a self employed grant through the government if you did not do a tax return last year. Also you cannot  claim universal credit if you live with a partner, it must be a joint claim. This is unacceptable for those of us who fall into those 2 categories and most of us have been left in financial hardship.

I started my own business 8n January meaning I didnt not do a tax return last year and I live with my partner meaning I cannot claim for universal credit. I have called hmrc and have been told by them that because if my circumstances I cannot claim anything from the government. I cant bare the thought of loosing my business when I have worked extremely hard working towards it for the past 2/3 years.

Please help me by trying to get this noticed and have some sort of acknowledgement from the UK government. Even just as explanation as to why they do not feel the need to support ALL of us would help !

Thank you
