Succinctly stipulated, British Airways is the only direct flight from London - Accra, Ghana, a journey of just over 6 hours, yet one of the most expensive routes in the world. In spite of this, British Airways for years have been taking Ghanaians for granted by taking off very late (in some cases over 2-4 hours late). In fact, British Airways has never taken off on time to Ghana in over 90% of take-offs. Coupled with this, the route is served by one of the oldest planes in its fleet (almost 30 years old) which continues to have mechanical issues and other operational issues. The last time I took it, they had an issue with something to do with engine number 3, other times, the heating wasn’t working, another time the cargo compartment couldn’t close, and even in Business class, there are signs of very very shoddy maintenance with foams hanging out, screws coming out, plain shaking with screeching noise on every take-off etc. In fact if not for the monopoly BA enjoys on this route being the only direct flight from London to Accra, I don’t believe it would have been the first choice by many travellers to Ghana from the UK.
As a top tier executive club member who flies BA frequently, I have on numerous occasions twitted BA with complaints and pictures of dilapidated cabins in the business class of which they have always responded and apologised but these same issues have remained every time I have traveled. BA also refused to allow me to come to their Head office to speak to them and only offered to speak to me on the phone which I declined..!! Our health and safety MUST be paramount and I believe Ghanaians are being taken for granted and exploited with impunity..!! Please help me to get through to BA by signing this petition..! We demand newer aircraft, lower airfares and attention to safety ..!
