The protesters were only fighting an ancient wrong done to enslaved people from the Caribbean. The Council had ignored many requests for it to be taken down. If you want something done and know in your heart it is the right thing to do and does no harm to anyone - then do it yourself!

That statue shouldn’t have been there it’s a sign that inequality is not only recognised but endorsed. The people who took it down did a service for the public that the council have ignoring cries for for years. They should be praised!

This was something we petitioned about for years and were obstructed by the Merchant Venturers every time. This should have been done years ago, and the people who took action on behalf of the city should not be prosecuted for righting this wrong.
