Affordable Homes for Bedminster!
This petition had 675 supporters
Developers Rollo Homes plan to throw up a load of flats into the Bedminster community whilst disregarding the greater impact it will have on current residents. Zero affordable housing. 217 homes priced extortionately. No family homes. They will drive prices even higher and force us out of our own community.
Council policy says 30% affordable housing should be on this site, yet the developers say it’s unviable. What they mean is that they want a minimum of 20% profit and building affordable means they might not get that - though they'd still make plenty!
I am a local resident. My life and that of my childs' is based here - friends, neighbours, work, childcare: this is our community. We live here and want to grow here, however I fear for how long I can afford to rent here, for our future and where we will end up. Changing schools, losing support networks, friends and jobs in an area we have contributed to and feel integrated into, and which we love - all lost because we cannot afford over £1000 a month for a small house to live in.
Landlords increase rents as if playing with Monopoly money, but for us it is real. Many residents just cannot afford to live in modest homes in an area we’ve built our lives around. The new development will push up the price of homes in the area. We cannot allow profit hungry businesses to override Council safeguards and the needs of local people.

Let’s stand together and put a stop to this.
