Support Southside Eagles gain a much needed playing facility!

Southside Eagles are in desperate need of a purpose built clubhouse and additional playing facilities to keep up with the enormous growth experienced by the club over the last 10 years.

One of the last remaining spaces capable of accommodating such a clubhouse/facility in our general area is Murarrie Recreation reserve and we are lobbying council to partner with us in conjunction with other sporting groups (cycling/cricket) to secure our future growth over the next 50 years. Once this opportunity is lost, it will be gone for good. The Murarrie facility is large enough to accommodate a multi-sport facility and should be shared among multiple sports, not 1 or 2 groups.

With over 1000 players, 850 between 5-17 yrs old, our club has rapidly grown into a 4000+ community of players, parents, family, coaches and volunteers, and one of the largest clubs in Queensland. Our current playing facility is bursting at the seams and extremely over crowded, we are currently situated on a Heritage listed public park that makes it impossible to build any type of usable clubhouse.

The current situation sees us struggle with exorbitant ongoing maintenance costs to combat the extreme overuse of the limited number of fields we have available, and this is exacerbated by the fact we are forced to hire other fields year-round at great cost to accommodate training, and further compounded by the fact we do not have a clubhouse capable of holding events for our members (like almost every other club) to help raise much needed funds to keep our club thriving into the future.

Given football is the fastest growing and most played sport in Australia by a huge majority, (football players outnumber Cricket, AFL, Rugby League and Union combined), we respectfully ask Council to support the fastest growing game in the country, the world game, and support our club to ensure we remain the focal point of our 4000+ community.

Please help us by supporting this Petition to Brisbane City Council.
