Donna Caley started this petition to Brisbane City Council and

Road Safety is a community issue.  With all NEW developments in our communities, both Local Government and Developers MUST put road safety first.

Over 1100 people are killed on our roads every year. That’s 1100 mothers, fathers, daughters and sons whose lives are cut short. Too many families torn apart due to often avoidable road crashes.

Road safety is a community issue, it’s on all of us to minimise risk of crashes and to save lives. You only have to look at the staggering figures, which reveal children make up 25 percent of our national road toll, to see it’s not just drivers who suffer the consequences of road risk-taking.  Road-related incidents are the biggest killer of children aged under 14years in Australia.  Second only to suicide to the age of 24years.

We wouldn’t leave the pool fence open. We wouldn’t let our kids ride their bikes without a helmet. We wouldn’t let them walk home alone at night.

BUT!, we are allowing a developer to create single access through a small suburban community a new development of 87 townhouses.  This would equate to over 150 extra vehicles every day, all using the Berkshire Place, The Avenue, and Kent Street a minimum of twice per day, on what is already narrow and congested area.  Potentially adding up to 100s of vehicle movements every day.  Parking is also very limited in this area, which makes Berkshire Place and Kent Street single lane at most times.

The solution is simple, and access can be done via other areas where the risk to the community and children is far less.

We MUST work together to solve this issue.  One more death or serious injury is one too many.

The facts are:

87 Townhouse development "Infinity Heathwood

Due to open March 2020

The ONLY access is planned to be from Berkshire Place, Heathwood.  This area is already congested and there have already been near misses on the only roads in and out:  (The Avenue and Kent Street). It will also run past the only children's park in the area.

NB The developers advertise the address as: 31 Stapleton Road, Heathwood.  However, there will be no access off Stapleton Road.  This area off Stapleton Road is for a "pool".

PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION TO HELP MAKE REAL CHANGE AND PUT THE SAFETY OF OUR COMMUNITY AND CHILDREN FIRST.
