Review motorcycle parking in Brisbane CBD and Valley (more parks or allow footpath parking)
Motorcycles are an ever increasing demographic in the daily commuters across the country, especially since recent law changes made motorcycling more attractive by allowing filtering.
With an increase in motorcyclist numbers, a strain has been placed on the relatively small number of available marked motorcycle parks in the city and Valley areas. So much so, that most riders need to aim to get to work before 7am in order to be assured a parking spot.
Motorcycling benefits everyone whether it be due to a decrease in traffic congestion or a reduction in emissions produced by a motorcycle compared to a car.
The city of Melbourne recently produced a "Motorcycling Plan 2015-2018" to review and setout a clear plan of action for increasing the numbers of motorcyclists in their CBD while reducing safety risks. As part of the city of Melbourne's commitment to motorcyclists, footpath parking (where it doesn't impede pedestrians) is allowed.
If you would like to see more motorcycle parks, and/or a change in law to allow footpath parking, please sign this petition to at the very least have the BCC review their current policies.
