Restricting Marijuana Farm Developments in Brisbane
Currently within Brisbane City Council jurisdiction, as has just happened in Moggill, a development application for a farm to grow medicinal cannabis can be approved without any notification and objection period (being only "code assessable") as long as it is within a rural zoning, as there is no separate land use category of "controlled substance horticulture" only "horticulture," thereby allowing a cannabis farm to fall within the code allowable land uses.
It is undemocratic not to allow local residents a notification and objection period for a neighbouring land use that they obviously might have reservations about.
We now have a cannabis farm in Moggill, which was approved by Council without any local residents being informed of the application (because it was only "code assessable.")
This petition calls on Brisbane City Council to introduce a new land use category of "controlled substance horticulture," application for which requires a community notification and objection period, thereby excluding development applications for horticulture of controlled substances from ever being only “code assessable.”
