Naming of Lawrie Smith AM Place

To the Lord Mayor, Cr Graham Quirk and to Councillors of Brisbane City Council
We, the undersigned residents, visitors, tourists and businesses, call on the Brisbane City Council to consider naming the small park area at the Cnr of College St. and Gregory Terrace, opposite the Main entrance to the Roma Street Parklands, Lawrie Smith AM Place. We feel this would recognise and honour a landscaping legend, whose design flare, vision, work ethic and sheer determination ensured millions of residents, visitors and tourists enjoyed a green and lush World Expo 88 experience. He also left a legacy equal to none with his work at the Roma Street Parklands. Lawrie’s footprint extended to the Brisbane Grammar School, immediately behind the proposed ‘Place’.
In naming the Corner it also forms a link in the Expo 88 Art Trail, and recognizes the Art of Landscape Design. Queensland in 1988 was a World Leader, in that Art Form.
