The Brisbane City Council are insisting that gyms and fitness centres apply for an Entertainment Permit to operate. Simply because they play background music for their members.

The definition of an Entertainment Permit is:

"A permit is required for any entertainment venue which is open to the public for entertainment whether or not a charge for admission is made. Venue types have been categorised based on risk".

This permit mostly affects the small players. The small independent gyms who are trying to make a difference to the health and wellness of Brisbane Families. This is an expensive, unnecessary permit. we already PPCA licensing to enable us to play music. For many of us, this is a fee, on top of so many other fees, we simply cannot afford and the permit does not seem logical.
