Political parties now have a chance to be transparent. But they don't want to open themselves up to public scrutiny.

Recently, the Central Information Commission (CIC) ruled that political parties should come under the RTI Act. This would mean that they would have to be transparent about how they work. But the biggest political parties of India have opposed it.

Bringing the political parties under RTI will make them more accountable to people and strengthen democracy as well. The CIC also noted that this will strengthen our democracy and make all functions transparent.

However, the biggest political parties like the Congress and the BJP have opposed this decision of the CIC saying that it is the wrong interpretation of the law.

As the biggest political parties of the country, it is their responsibility to lead the nation towards progressive reforms and not oppose them.

Sonia Gandhi says that the Indian National Congress played a key role in bringing the RTI act which has empowered people to fight corruption. She now has the opportunity to take the next step in strengthening the RTI Act by bringing the Congress Party under it.

If lakhs of us sign this petition, Sonia Gandhi will know that the public is demanding she make the Congress party accountable and open to public scrutiny. She will know that lakhs of Indians want the congress party to follow the CIC order and bringing political parties under RTI.

Sign my petition and forward it to your friends. Lets demand accountable politics.

We request you to appoint a PIO for the congress party and bring it under the ambit of the RTI act, as suggested by the CIC ruling.
