Bring Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to LCHS!
I, among many students, suffer from mental illness. Juggling taking care of our mental health, schoolwork, homework, home life, and even work gets increasingly difficult every day. That doesn't mean we don't care for our high school education but sometimes we need a moment to prioritize ourselves. I am an acting co-president for the class of 2024 and I believe our school would greatly benefit from having a social-emotional classroom. cfchildren.org says "Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success. People with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially." If we added a classroom like this to our building, we would be directly influencing our students to understand their emotions, feel their emotions and show empathy for their peers.
