School Resource Officers not only help to increase the safety of our schools by consistently evaluating safety measures and procedures and by being first responders in case of emergencies, but they also utilize their time to build relationships with students by acting as mentors and positive role models.  An officer that builds trust and positive relationships with our youth, beginning at a young age, can have lasting benefits throughout their education and for our society as a whole. 

At this time, there are 2 resource officers in our district- One provided by the city at the High School and one provided by the county at the middle school. Currently, the 4 city elementary schools do not have a School Resource Officer. According to research by the Rockefeller Institute of Government, elementary schools have become the most vulnerable schools to outside attacks, yet they are the ones in our district who are lacking SRO’s, hall monitors, grounds monitors, etc.

Please sign this petition in favor of SRO’s in the elementary schools to let the Board of Education, the Saratoga Springs City Council, and the Saratoga Springs Police Department know that parents want SRO’s in the elementary schools now.
