Subject: IS SHUTTING DOWN OUR GOVERNMENT AN ACT OF SEDITION?
SHOULD the republicans and tea-party members behind this holding our nation hostage be brought up on charges?
SEDITION is conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state. Sedition laws somewhat equate to terrorism and public order laws. In law, sedition is overt conduct, such as speech and organization, that is deemed by the legal authority to tend toward insurrection against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent (or resistance) to lawful authority..."to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States". These republicans CLEARLY have set out to incite discontent to lawful authority. Have we EVER seen a sitting president treated with such disrespect for his elected office? Does shutting down our government aid and abet our enemies, even unintentionally? TREASON involves trying to overthrow the government--is shutting it down analogous to overthrowing it? Probably not, but these Republicans get a pass for not resorting to violence. Their actions are flirting right up against sedition, in my opinion. Sedition is generally punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison. If you find this note of interest, please pass it on to other like-minded folks. This has to stop.
