Why this petition matters

Started by Daniel Thompson

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America, with a 40% growth in the past few years alone. Yet our facilities for playing in our great city of Kirksville are subpar at best. If you are not a Y member or a Truman student/faculty, your options are to rent a net and play at the cracked, hard concrete surface at Brashear Park, or to play on tennis nets at the weirdly sloped and equally cracked courts at Patryla Park shown above.

To make matters worse, all surrounding communities of our size now have dedicated courts. Macon just completed 6 beautiful new ones this month, Ottumwa opened 2 last month. Moberly, Kahoka & Hannibal all have courts as well. This would be a great asset to our town and would bring people together of all ages and encourage activity and exercise. Please help us grow the sport in our wonderful community by signing this petition. We will be taking the results directly to city council when completed to help them shape the vision they are crafting in their Recreation Master Plan 2032.

Thank you!

P.S. Please also consider filling out the 2022 City of Kirksville Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment which will further help shape our community.
