Merewether Heights Public School long ago replaced the military style siren school bell with a fun song. 

Each class take turns in choosing the song as a reward for their hard work, kind gestures and upholding the school values. 

The songs bring much excitement to the children and helps reduce morning anxieties about attending school, happily running when they hear the music. Music is a proven motivational trigger to positive learning. 

Due to a community complaint the school now needs to revert to a siren/bell to ensure the exact decibels are maintained. The children, staff (and neighbours) will now hear that multiple times a day instead of a short happy tune.

Choosing to live near a school brings with it some noise between 9am and 3:25pm school days. Bells, sirens, music, children laughing, screaming etc. After hours and weekends it brings silence. 

Please join this petition if you would like to see a return of the fun music instead of the school bell/siren.
