Why this petition matters

With new boundaries preparations , IPSD District 204  has made all of a sudden decision to stop bus service for our Lakeridge subdivision Elementary kids which was there since 17 +years. District now determines there is no safety hazard while walking to school, But the fact is there is no walking path on one side of Stonebridge Blvd going towards Brooks Elementary where this subdivision (Lake ridge) is. So kids have to cross Stonebridge Blvd  by themselves (rain/snow) to go on the walking path which leads to school. This Stonebridge Blvd has posted speed limit of 25 but people always speeding on that road. District has no paper why the school bus service was provided until now.

Lakeridge subdivision right now has more than 25+ kids so district started providing a separate school bus service few years back just for that subdivision. Subdivision next to Lakeridge is still getting the bus service which is on the same side as Lakeridge and comes well within 1.5 miles. Parents of Lakeridge subdivision has asked over and over to the board and person in charge to have a meeting with us to explain our concern in a better way but that never happened.

District is just sticking to IDOT safety hazard numbers which practically does not make sense where they give points according to POSTED speed limit and not actual. Board members are not ready to add any judgemental points since there are no major accidental history on that road. We can not wait for any accidents to happen with any of the kid in our community to start school bus service.

District is not considering any financial, environmental, traffic or time factors apart from our kids safety while making such decision. This is a totally unexpected move by IPSD and this could soon happen in other school districts across the nation. Since the decision by IPSD only impacts a small community, it is probably not found worthy for wider news coverage but for the parents, its already causing sleepless nights of anxiety and concern.

This is also an appeal to the Gwendolyn Brooks Elementary PTA to take up this issue and convince the authorities in continuing with Bus Transportation for this neighborhood.

Kindly sign, support and share this petition to urge IPSD and Brooks Elementary School to reconsider extending Bus transportation to this neighborhood and alleviate all the safety fears of the parents.
