Why this petition matters

Started by Hannah Shaw

Norwin powderpuff football games were a school tradition for over a decade. In 2020 the game was first canceled due to the Covid-19 virus. Ever since then, we have not been able to bing it back for an unknown reason. The game is in support of charity with students paying a small fee to play which goes to uniforms and the local food bank. Admission price to watch the game is nonperishable food items which are also donated. This all occurs around the Thanksgiving season in hopes to provide families in need with a proper meal.

We cannot see a reason as to why this should not be allowed. The game does not typically cost the school any money as teacher involvement is strictly voluntary as is whether the students choose to pay to play. Risk of injury is very low as the game is flag football  which is not full contact.

Female students every year look forward to playing powderpuff. It consists of two separate games in which the freshman play the sophomores and the juniors play the seniors. All teams are head coached by a volunteer teacher and helpers include students who are members of the schools varsity and junior varsity football team. The only thing which would be provided by the school is the use of the field and stadium, which is typically open to the public when school events aren’t occurring.

If this petition gains enough support from members of the Norwin community, we hope there is no way administration can say no. Thank you for your support!
