I never would have thought I'd be making a petition for a show, many shows I've enjoyed have gone off the air before I was ready, yet I've never taken action. However, Diary of a Future President is important. This wasn't just any show, it had the ability to bring together my whole family. It was one of the few things my 6, 12, and 14 year old all wanted to do together, and my husband and I loved it as well. Even more important, there was honest representation of LGBTQ+ characters that was real and heartfelt but also still very Disney. The relationships were wholesome and relatable. We got to see a beautiful Hispanic/Latinx family that was thriving and wasn't ruled by hurtful stereotypes as TV shows often love to do. And the show was clearly meant to go on, the last episode left us unsure if Elena won the election we'd all been rooting for her to win, what would have happened with Bobby and Liam's friendship, if Sam would have maybe proposed or at least figured out his place in the family, and so much more. It may be just a show, but I think a lot of people could benefit from seeing more of the Cañero-Reeds. Their story of friendship and a loving family is worth telling, at least for one more season where these wonderful characters can get the resolution they deserve!
