Bring Back Darkroom Photography At NCSSM
Why this petition matters
The Darkroom Photography class at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is one of the few remaining darkroom programs in the nation at the high school level. It introduces the concepts of darkroom photography—a unique combination of art and science, with essential chemistry processes—to students in an intuitive and engaging way.
It is consistently one of the most popular courses at the school, as it combines the creative freedom of art with the intellectual engagement of science. The school is discontinuing the course, citing funding issues, despite its popularity. This is a blow to the students of the school now and in the future, and limits the scope of the programs that the school offers.
Instructor Mr. Harlan Campbell, the Director of Darkroom and Digital Arts at Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies, is willing to continue the course with YOUR support, which is what we need!
Give students the freedom to explore their creativity and further their artistic and scientific horizons at this school. Sign to bring back Darkroom Photography!
