Edinburgh is facing a youth violence crisis — and our children are paying the price.
In primary schools, secondary schools, on public buses, in parks, libraries, and on our streets, violent incidents involving young people are becoming increasingly common. Parents across this city are living with daily anxiety about whether their child will come home safe. That is not something any family should have to accept.
We are calling on Edinburgh City Council and Police Scotland to take immediate action.
We demand the reintroduction of dedicated community policing — uniformed officers on the beat, every day, embedded within our communities and working directly with young people. This approach was visible, it was effective, and it worked. We need it back.
We are calling for officers to have the full mandate to disperse groups breaching the peace, move people on where intimidation and disorder are taking place, and restore safety to the public spaces every resident has the right to enjoy.
This is happening on our buses. In our schools. In our parks. In our libraries. Nowhere feels exempt.
Every child in Edinburgh deserves to feel safe. Every parent deserves peace of mind. Every community deserves to reclaim its streets.
