Nearly 25 years after the signing of the #GFA (Good Friday Agreement) Loyalists paramilitaries are still as prominent today, as they always have been - why?

Our media report on a daily basis how these so-called protectors of Loyalism, still rule with an iron fist within their own communities - why?

Their current modus operandi is drug trafficking, coupled with racketeering, extortion, intimidation and self gain!

Political Unionism seem oblivious to their existence and if one didn't know any better, at times, welcome their input to serve their own agenda! At the last DUP leadership contest, media sources reported "Loyalists paramilitaries told people which candidate to vote for." 

A more puzzling concern however is our police force (PSNI) and their refusal to lock up these (known) individuals? I say "known individuals" because again, our media name them on a weekly basis.

Question?

Who is benefiting from keeping these paramilitaries in existence? 

Why are we as a society still subject to their control?
