We, the residents of Bhakti park would like to request you to reconsider your decision regarding banning cycling in Bhakti park garden. We would like to explain our position and also in the interest of your time, offer some suggestions on how to reach a mutual stance.
There are two main issues that need to be addressed:
A.Allowing kids to play:
For us,parents of this new generation, staying in high rises it is becoming extremely difficult to expose our kids to nature and provide them fresh air. In India, there are mainly two games that kids play-football and cricket, which require space, currently unable in our buildings. We are fully aware of the care that it takes to maintain the gardens, however the appointed ground for children to play is in a very unruly state and children cannot play there.Given the mosquito menace,we cannot expose our children to that ground.
Children development at this stage is very critical, they are learning habits for life. If we want to make them well rounded individuals , we must imbibe habbits in them now. Children learn by example,if they see adults around them playing games with them it will encourage them.
If our children are denied these games we will have no option but to make them watch tv or devices, which in the long run will only create more problems for the society.
2. Allowing Cycling:
Cycling is a very important part of human body development. For kids it helps in strengthening their muscles and motor control. For adults it is a very good way to relax in a stress free environment. If we had a choice,we would cycle elsewhere, but there are no tracks for us to cycle anywhere in our neighbourhood.
The number of kids in our society is huge, you can only imagine the conseqequence on them of being idle or all of them cycling on the road.
We have been using the garden for many years and it is almost a second home for our children. We understand that maintanance and upkeep of the garden is a concern, but we vouch for being alert citizens and working with the authorities to ensure rules are followed.
We propose the following amendments to your rules:
Timings for cycling – One hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. Say-7.30 am -8.30 am 4.30 pm-5.30 pm
Playing for kids- Football & cricket on cemented road ( at the risk of children getting hurt).
Increased security - This could be financed by levying a nominal charge for those who wish to cycle.
We would like to work with you to a mutual settlement and hope for a healthier Bhakti Park.
