Save Oaklands Park Community Day Nursery from Closure!

We are shocked to hear that Birmingham City Council is considering the full closure of 14 community day nurseries. One of which is Oaklands Park Community Day Nursery in Yardley. This nursery serves the children and families of one of the most deprived areas of the city. Closing this nursery would be detrimental to the care and development of the children, some of which are on child protection plans and have special education needs (SEN). The nursery also provides free entitled places for 2 to 4 year olds without which parents would struggle returning to work.

If the nursery was to be closed this would be very disruptive and unsettling to the child as they would have to join a new nursery. Oaklands Park Nursery has a reputation for offering outstanding care for each individual child, providing opportunities in language development to the many bilingual children that attend there.

We must also highlight the stress that will be endured by the many working parents who rely on the local, affordable childcare in a secure, caring and nurturing environment. Our nursery has been meeting the needs of parents since the second world war. The solution is to make the nursery more sustainable for the future children of Birmingham.
