Amanda Bishop started this petition to Brighton & Hove City Council

We call on Brighton & Hove City Council to immediately halt the sale of the Brighton Centre tied to the Waterfront Project to build a 10,000 seat conference and concert venue at Black Rock which will be bad for small businesses in the City, bad for Council finances, the loss of a valuable asset, bad for the local environment, bad for all conference & concert goers who currently use the Brighton Centre, and bad for local infrastructure.

We need a city wide discussion with ideas for Black Rock, not dictated by big money private developers.

We call on the Council to pursue a plan of renovation and extension to our Brighton Centre.

The plan the prospective purchasers (Standard Life Investments) Churchill Square group have, to knock down the Brighton Centre and extend Churchill Square to the seafront, is also a very bad idea. We don't need anymore chain stores, and value the diversity and charm of the small unique shops and restaurants in our City, who will suffer if this goes ahead.

Please sign and share this petition widely.  We don't have much time.
