James Jones started this petition to Brighton & Hove City Council and

Duke's Mound in Kemptown Brighton has been a popular social/meeting area for gay men for over 50 years. Brighton and Hove council need to embrace that gay people need an area like this and it is unfair to completely remove it, without hearing their true voices. Cutting down of trees and bushes has already begun, and action must now be taken to halt this before it is all but destroyed. Of course this area does need some attention, but we strongly believe that most of it should be sheltered and protected. Many people find solace and a sense of strong community here, and we merely want this kept and nurtured for future generations. Gay people make up a very large proportion of this area and many people from all over the world use the nudist beach which is alongside Duke's Mound. It would be a great shame to not represent these people, and they have a right to be heard. For obvious reasons, anonymous signing of this petition is allowed, but if you can be brave, use your real name and be counted.
