Renovate BYU-I’s Hinckley Building in a More Accessible Way
Why this petition matters
Education Professors at Brigham Young University-Idaho have used the Hinckley as a prime example of inaccessibility for years, even creating an assignment where students use wheelchairs in the building to test it out themselves. As a result, many eduction and special education students are aware of the fact that the Hinckley building on campus is not accessible to those who use wheelchairs. While there is an elevator, the doors to the bathroom are heavy and there is a bump at the entrance that prevents chairs from rolling in. There also is similar trouble with the doors we all use as an entrance and exit.
These are minor changes that could make a big impact on who gets to become an educator, or a philosopher. We believe it’s important to draw attention to this issue and to help see it resolved.
