Bridgewater Citizens for Economic Development started this petition to Bridgewater Town Council

Have you ever wished that Bridgewater had an upscale restaurant? Or wondered why is there so little commercial development in the town to help with the tax burden? Well here's your chance to help Bridgewater.

In just a few short weeks your Bridgewater Town Council will be voting on a proposal to allow a waterfront restaurant to be built on route 104 on Lake Nippenicket.  Please sign the petition and tell the town council that you want waterfront dining in Bridgewater!

The location is nearly perfect. It is bordered by route 104, the boat launch/parking lot, and the lake, a restaurant on this site will help revitalize the lake which many of us know as a popular summer destination for "on the water" activities.  The increased activity will help serve as a better deterrent to criminal activity than the current dimly lit parking area and vacant lot.

Bridgewater has more than its share of sports bars, pizza joints, and fast food establishments which serve their purpose and are excellent compliments to our town; but if we want to celebrate a special event or just treat someone to a more upscale evening, we have to head out of town. It's time to make Bridgewater a destination for waterfront dining! Sign the petition today!

Unfortunately, the plan is being attacked   While the group's intentions are honorable, they often fail to see the long term implications of their entrenched positions and refusal to negotiate. For example, years ago, many from this same group successfully shouted down a proposal that included retail and commercial development in that same area. The result left the landowner with little options but to bypass the local boards and build the massive affordable housing complexes that are now. These apartment buildings caused a sharp increase in our school's population and are frequently the site of police or fire department responses, a cost that is born by all of the taxpayers. Something will be built on this property and we can't handle more apartments.

Don't let this group's opinion be the only opinion the town council hears on the matter! Speak up or Bridgewater will once again lose out on an opportunity to grow our commercial tax base and develop the key commercial development corridor of route 104.
