Bridgend County Borough Council have started a public consultation on a proposed new Active Travel plan for walkers and cyclists: http://www.bridgend.gov.uk/services/highways/transport-and-roads-home/walking-and-cycling/active-travel.aspx
Although there is provision for an official walking and cycling route out of Maesteg towards Bridgend, it is via the lanes and current right of way - and not the A4063 ("Paper Mills Road").
Considering the ATP is to help commuters as well as leisure walkers and cyclists in finding alternative means of travel to and fro work, no direct route alongside this very busy main road is a must. Traffic has increased exponentially over the years yet this road remains the same - any commuting cyclist puts their and drivers' lives at risk, utilising the grass verges on either side of the road would drastically limit that risk by taking the need for overtaking out of the equation.
I am starting this petition so that BCBC could at least see that there people interested in such a route and conduct a feasibility study into constructing one.
