Due to COVID-19, students are being forced to do their schoolwork at home, where parents, siblings, pets, responsibilities or even our phones could distract us. It’s important that our teachers take this into consideration while grading our work, it’s hard for us to learn the new material at home without any help. In my experience, my family has other things going on at home while i’m trying to finish my school work, for example, the TV could be on, the dog could be barking, someone could be cooking, there are many distractions at home that are not present at school. And what about the students who don’t have ideal or safe at home lives? They might have to experience parents yelling, drugs, or alcohol while attempting to complete their work for the due date. I’ve been present in a classroom with my peers who have ADHD or dyslexia, it’s harder for these individuals to learn or focus, therefore it causes one to wonder what it’s like for them to try to do their work at home with even more distractions. I feel the solution to this problem would be to have teachers take these matters into consideration while grading our work, for example, is an honours roll student starting failing, think, would this student have received this mark if they had been in school? And also, I ask for teachers to change any mark a student would receive that is below a 60% to a higher mark. COVID-19 is not something we can easily change, although we are working towards it. Im asking you to sign this petition to help the students who are struggling to complete their school work.
