The Iowa-Illinois Quad Cities have had Mallards hockey for more than 20 years, most recently as a member of the ECHL. When our owner withdrew our membership from the ECHL at the end of the 2017-18 season, it was brought to our attention that the league will be retaining the rights to our name and logo, even though the team is no longer a part of the league and the TaxSlayer Center, our home arena, also claims ownership of the name and logo.
Community leaders and thousands of fans are hoping that we can keep hockey in the Quad Cities. We also would like the option to retain our Mallards name and logo if that's the decision of new ownership, to maintain the traditions and history of Mallards hockey at The Marsh. We can't do that without the rights to our name and logo. Therefore, we are asking Brian McKenna, ECHL Commissioner, and the league's Board of Governors, led by Ray Harris (president of the Cincinnati Cyclones), to return the rights to the TaxSlayer Center at the end of the 2017-18 season. We're asking Mallards fans and hockey fans across the country to support us in this effort. We have already been hit by losing ECHL hockey...we don't need or want this additional loss!
