Why this petition matters

Started by Athena West

On Tuesday, May 7th 2019, Governor Brian Kemp signed the Georgia 'Heartbeat Bill', making it effective by January 1st. This Bill criminalizes abortions, as early as 6 weeks into pregnancy. To give some perspective, 6 weeks pregnant is about 2 missed menstrual periods; many women do not know, or suspect, a pregnancy at this point. Women who undergo abortions may be sentenced to Life in Prison, and even the Death Penalty.

Additionally, women who have miscarriages can be interrogated where an official will decide whether it was an 'accident' or 'intentional'. Yes, you heard that right, in Georgia people can be imprisoned for a miscarriage; something they have no control over.

This Bill is an extreme violation of human rights and is unbelievably sexist. The fact that this could pass, in any modern government, is disgusting.

If you are against this misogynistic 'Heartbeat Bill', please sign this petition! With enough public pressure, change is possible!!
