My good friend, Marco Gomez, was sentenced to 30 years for an armed robbery he did not commit. He has already served 11 years of his sentence. Three people have come forward to confess to the robbery and they claim to have never met Marco. Marietta PD has yet to investigate them and the judge would not let them speak! Shane Marriet, the investigator on the case, refuses to listen to evidence supporting Marco's innocence. From the beginning, we have had Cobb PD on our side. We have attended every court hearing with an officer with information on the assailants who actually committed this crime.

In addition to the erroneous conviction, there were other wrong-doings committed that hurt Marco's chances of justice. We observed the DA take a witness, one of the actual perpetrators, into a private room without Marco's lawyers knowing. I knew something was wrong so I listened in, then ran into the courtroom to let Marco's lawyers know what was happening. The DA intimidated our witness with the Rico Act if he confessed, since the statute of limitations for the armed robbery had passed. After meeting with the DA, the witness was called into the courtroom and plead the 5th. All of our witnesses knew details only the people who committed the crime would know, but not once has Marietta PD brought them in to as much as question them.

The crime was terrible, but this is not justice. Marco is a hard-working and father of three children. His mother has since passed since he has been incarcerated and he was not even able to say his goodbye. All we want is for the truth to come out so Marco to come home to his kids and continue to be a asset to our community with his hard work. We have tried to get a sentence reduction, with no avail. The judge that had it out for him has since retired and there is now a new DA. We need to push for someone to take another look at this case.

Three kids have spent 11 years without their father. (Actually, four kids because Marco's co-defendant, Joel, is also not guilty!
