Katia Sergeeva started this petition to Governor Brian Kemp

It is no secret that wearing a face covering in public is one of the best strategies we have to containing the spread of COVID-19. With hospitalizations continuing to rise and the stress of the new school year applying pressure to students and families alike, we must give local officials the ability to decide what is best for their communities based on the circumstances within them. We must do what we can to protect the healthcare workers that are working hard to protect us.

In spite of this, on July 15th, Governor Kemp put an explicit ban on mask mandates, voiding orders put in place by local officials for the safety of their constituents. On July 31st, he renewed this ban. Not only is this directly negligent of relevant data from the CDC, but it puts the people of Georgia at risk, and it makes it impossible for our local officials to do their jobs and keep us safe.

We know that face coverings work. We know how to reduce infections. Why aren't we? The sooner we reduce infection rates, the sooner we can get back to schools, workplaces, and all the things we've had to put on hold. The sooner we can defeat COVID, the sooner we can get Georgia back to economic prosperity. Wearing a mask is a crucial step in the right direction, and mask mandates are a necessity to help us do so. Let's show Governor Kemp we're not willing to put more lives at risk.
