Change the dress code to allow hats, hoods, off-shoulder tops, and aboveknee rips
As we progress into a time of winter, we need to stay warm. Despite the fact that we live in the state of Texas, people who can afford it can choose to wear hats and hoodies to keep them warm. And when it gets warmer, less heavy clothes are a go to.
So why can't we have hats and light clothes on at school? Is it because we don't want to distract people?
Distraction does not come from the choice of one's clothes, it comes from one's self-control. We need to start teaching our students this.
And why is wearing a hat in school a bad thing? It does not harm anyone if a student makes their way to class wearing a beanie to keep them warm.
Clothing is a form of expression, and you can't encourage kids to be creative and expression if you do not allow them to wear clothes that show others who they are.
As a transgender student, clothing is an important thing to me. If I can't wear a beanie and express myself, what good is it to be happy and do well in school? A beanie does not harm ANYONE.
Tell Klein ISD: We need a better dress code that will adapt to the needs and expressions of all students.
