Allow middle schoolers to use their phones during school hours with boundaries and rules.
Brentwood Union School District’s middle schoolers believe that we should be allowed to use our phones during school hours. Of course, there should be guidelines like no calling, specific times, boundaries, etc but we want a chance to use our phones during school hours. Many other school districts in the county are allowed to use their phones at specific times, i.e. Antioch Unified School District, San Ramon Unified School District, and the Liberty Union School District. All of these districts have a rule that say students can use their phones outside of class and so students don’t miss out on learning. Many students in the BUSD middle schools will try to sneak their phones in class, the bathrooms, and during lunch. If they hide in the bathroom during class or use them in class, students may miss out on vital information needed to excel. Meanwhile, if students are allowed to use phones outside of class with boundaries (like no calls, no loud noises, etc) they won’t miss out on any chances to learn while still getting their freedom.
