Amazon deforestation has been going on for a while, and we have all been aware, yet we have only taken action for a short time. According to Wikipedia, since 1970, over 700,000 square kilometers of the rainforest has been destroyed. In 2012, the Amazon was approximately 5.4 million square kilometers, which is only 87% of the Amazon's original state. Rainforests have decreased in size primarily due to deforestation. Directly or even indirectly we have been affected by the rainforest and it also affects other parts of the world. A lot of the oxygen we get comes from the Amazon.
