Remove Forced Ingestion Of Fluoride in Our Water
As people are becoming increasingly aware of health problems associated with industrial waste fluoride added to city water, coupled with the fact that it is not effective in preventing tooth decay, there is a growing movement to remove it.
In addition to many other cities across Canada, our friends to the north; Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage, Flin Flon, and Churchill have now removed fluoride in their water, joining Thompson's fluoride free status. Bill Hanson, councillor in Flin Flon stated "There’s no other drug in the world that someone can give me without my informed consent. And I don’t think it’s ethical at all for us to be treating our water system as a way of medicating the people."
Consumer Advocate, Erin Brockovich (made famous by Julia Roberts Oscar winning portrayal) is now behind the movement to end water fluoridation after receiving many complaints and investigating the matter: http://fluoridealert.org/news/erin-brockovich/
She appeared on The Dr. Oz Show February 1, 2016:
The chemical fluoride added to our water is medication. Could a public health official or doctor sit down with a community phonebook and ethically write a prescription for every person in the book - without examining each person or determining the proper dose for each, all without getting informed consent?
Absolutely not; yet this is what our city does.
And what doesn't add up is this: non-fluoridated communities throughout the world experience better tooth health, or the same tooth health, than fluoridated communities. If not fluoridating water was the actual cause of increases in tooth cavities, then 98% of Europe and all non-fluoridated cities worldwide, including those in Canada & the U.S., should have been experiencing cavity "epidemics" for years and decades .... but ....
They have not.
Through clever PR campaigns proudly displaying glowing white teeth as a result of fluoride use, it is a widely held belief that fluoride is a savior in preventing tooth decay, but it is only a half truth. The CDC (Centers For Disease Control) quietly announced back in 1999 that topical use is the only benefit; so varnishes and toothpastes are somewhat helpful in maintaining tooth health when applied topically and used consistently. Even so, many people simply use neem, xylitol, or baking soda toothpastes to keep their teeth and gums clean and healthy.
Fluoride toothpastes and treatments are still poisonous if swallowed and must be used properly; hence, warnings on the tubes to only use a pea sized amount and make sure not to swallow. Sadly, the fluoride that is added to city water is not even pharmaceutical or food grade fluoride, nor is it naturally occurring calcium fluoride, as so many media stories and pro-fluoride dentists claim. Read the label:
Rather, it is neurotoxic industrial waste; a chemical waste by-product of the phosphate fertilizer and aluminum industries called hydrofluosilicic acid which is collected from the wet scrubbers of industrial plants (mostly from China), along with arsenic, cadmium and other toxins . It is then diluted and added into our drinking water. Aside from drinking water, some other uses are: removing rust and stains, removing mold, preserving wood, hardening masonry, acidizing oil wells, manufacturing ceramic & glass, and electroplating.
In the 1920's and 1930's, industrial plants were dumping this waste into the air, waterways and lands, decimating animals, plants, and the environment. During the 1930's mounting lawsuits began over the fluoride poisonings caused by the waste-dumping. How this came to be an additive of our water supply began as a way for industry to reduce waste into the environment and avoid more lawsuits. The main fluoride waste emitters funded research which claimed to show a connection between their fluoride and benefits to teeth. Soon after, a plan to dilute it into the water supply for the benefit of tooth health was led by the U.S. Public Health Service, which (at that time) was under the authority of the founder of ALCOA - Aluminum Company of America; the very industry that needed to find a way to dispose of its waste without any more lawsuits.
Water fluoridation "trials" began in 1945 and were supposed to go for 10 years, but in 1950 - only half way through the trials - the U.S. Public Health Service, under ALCOA's rule, suddenly endorsed fluoridation before the data was collected. Clearly this was not a science-based decision because the science wasn't in on either effectiveness or safety. It was obviously a political decision, influenced by industrial interests. Their next step was to change the damaging reputation of fluoride into something that was safe enough to drink.
At this time, public perception of this fluoride was very negative, since it was the main ingredient in rat poison. In order to change this, public relations expert, Edward Bernays, who had made smoking a classy, respectable activity for women, was brought in to sell this fluoride waste product as a helpful addition to dental care. Once the Public Health Service endorsed this chemical fluoride for use in city water, it was rubber-stamped as a healthy addition to prevent tooth decay and began being added to city water systems.
Since that time, however, it has been shown that this fluoride not only has associated health risks, it is simply not effective in preventing tooth decay in drinking water. And there are still, to this day, no toxicology studies and no clinical trials to prove that hydrofluosilicic acid, used for artificial water fluoridation, is safe to use as an additive - not one. If this 60+ year "experiment" on people was so successful, then why do non-fluoridated communities experience the same or greater dental health than those with fluoride still in their water?
Even long before water fluoride was implemented, pre-trial studies indicated questionable safety. Dr. Dean Burk, in 1937, co-founded the US National Cancer Institute (NCI), and headed its Cytochemistry department for over three decades. In one particular government-directed study of which he was assigned, data surfaced linking the water fluoride to dramatic increases in cancer. When his negative findings were reported, the entire study mysteriously disappeared. Hidden from U.S. media, his findings resurfaced in a Dutch film clip, which is now posted on YouTube for the world to see. In this video, Dr. Burk states that water fluoridation is "public murder" and "crime on a grand scale" referring to the comparison of the 10 largest U.S. cities with fluoridation versus the 10 largest cities without it:
There is clearly no science to support this archaic practice, which is based on long discredited studies. As Calgary, AB City Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra stated after much research into this issue: "the science just isn't there to justify water fluoridation. I think the health-science view is predicated on a certain approach which I think is no longer entirely relevant. And I encourage health scientists to come forward with a point of view that carries the full view of science but is also more relevant to the sensibilities of the day."
Dr. James Beck, a Professor Emeritus of medical biophysics at the University of Calgary who has been studying fluoride since 1999, said he’s pleased Okotoks made the move against fluoride. He said the slight cavity-preventing benefits arise from topical action such as fluoride varnishes and fluoridated toothpaste, not from ingesting treated water. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has also acknowledged this fact. In 1999 it stated that “fluoride prevents dental caries predominately after eruption of the tooth into the mouth, and its actions primarily are topical for both adults and children.” The NRC; National Research Council has concurred, stating in 2006 that, “the major anti-caries benefit of fluoride is topical and not systemic.”
There has never been even one controlled study that scientifically documents that water fluoridation has ever reduced or prevented tooth decay, and removing this drug from drinking water never causes tooth decay rates to increase; in fact, it's the opposite. The WHO - World Health Organization published statistics showing that European countries who do not fluoridate enjoy better rates of tooth health than the heavily fluoridated U.S., although the U.S. suffers from high rates of dental fluorosis; a permanent disfiguring, adverse structural change to the teeth, accompanied by marked discoloration and spots; the direct result of too much fluoride.
The ADA; American Dental Association's “classical” water fluoridation/tooth decay “studies” it did in the 1940’s and 50’s to justify their endorsement of water fluoridation were nothing more than unscientific scripted PR statements, made to create the illusion that fluoride had something to do with reducing tooth decay rates.
H. Trendley Dean, DDS, was the chief dental officer at the US Public Health Service and who the ADA refers to as the “Father of water fluoridation.” Dr. Dean was responsible for designing and creating those "classical" fluoridated water/tooth decay studies done by the USPHS (under ALCOA at that time) in the 1940’s and early 1950’s. Dr. Dean, when cross-examined before the Public Utilities Commission of the State of California in Oroville, October 20-21, 1955 admitted, under oath, that those “studies” were not valid studies. None of those studies, nor any since then, followed the same children from year to year, the water sources were not consistent, and there was zero consideration for nutrition, oral hygiene care or dental care. A valid scientific controlled study cannot have these numerous variables exempt. The ADA neglected to teach dentists that Dr. Dean invalidated his own “classical” studies.
Some (not all) dentists and dental organizations, still believe in these old manipulated studies and still teach dentists that it is a beneficial, naturally occurring mineral, when in fact, it is industrial, chemical waste. Naturally occurring fluoride is found in several foods and drinks, but the additive in city water systems is not even close to being natural; nor does it have any benefits. Most dentists can admit to knowing the real reason for tooth decay, which is an overabundance of processed foods and sugar, combined with poor dental hygiene. And "children are more susceptible to tooth decay than adults because their enamel is not yet fully developed" so if your child is going all day without brushing, he or she will be worse off.
The City of Brandon "implemented" water fluoridation in 1955 - for "people's own good," soon after the strategic PR emerged about how great this waste by-product was for teeth. It is now 2017, and the city is still force-medicating the entire population based on outdated theories and beliefs.
Forced medication is a violation of basic human rights. No one - including a doctor - has a right to force any drug upon a person without their consent. Under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Section 7, our bodily integrity is protected. We have the human right to refuse therapeutic treatments. If a doctor forced a drug to even one patient, he/she would lose their license. How then, can it be acceptable for politicians to do so?
Forcibly mass-medicating an entire city with chemical waste that has been falsely positioned as a therapeutic health product for teeth is deceitful and unethical. If we do not want to drink the city water as it is now, the only other choices we have are to bring in specially bottled water that does not contain added fluoride (because most do) or install an expensive filtering system to remove it. And that does not solve the problem of bathing and showering with it. Many other cities have now removed fluoride from their water systems; still giving people the option to add it themselves, if they so choose.
It is reckless and hypocritical for government and medical bodies to insist the public not buy into discredited studies when making decisions about health, yet they have no problem regularly pushing various drugs upon us, that are based on discredited studies.
In 1999, Dr. Hardy Limeback, who was Chief Fluoride Adviser to the Canadian Dental Association and Canada's foremost fluoride expert announced that we should not be putting it in city water. As a biochemist and professor of dentistry at the University of Toronto, and after studying fluoride extensively, he no longer supported adding it to water, based on some very disturbing findings within his research. He left the Canadian Dental Association and now represents organizations against water fluoridation. Limeback still advises that toothpaste is beneficial topically, but thinks under no circumstances, should it be added to the water supply. Basically, it is the equivalent of drinking sunscreen to prevent sun damage, rather than applying it topically - both ineffective and potentially poisonous.
We are to use special caution with infants. Babies drinking formula made with fluoridated water receive a very high dose of fluoride for their body weight and size. Due to this unnaturally high dose, it is now known that children who received fluoridated formula as infants have significantly higher rates of dental fluorosis. Other health concerns from infant fluoride exposure include reduced IQ and thyroid impairment. Dental researchers recommend that parents use water that is low in fluoride when mixing formula to feed their baby. Several areas in the United States have issued public warnings. In June of 2012, the State of New Hampshire passed a bill requiring that water companies must notify parents of the infant fluorosis warning. The City of Milwaukee and State Department of Health in Vermont have issued similar warnings.
Our pets have also been the victims of over exposure to fluoride; many dog foods having very high levels, far beyond what has been deemed "acceptable" in combination with drinking fluoridated water. The hip, bone, structural damage in many pets, and the inability of this internal fluoride to protect their teeth, is an obvious cause for concern.
Dr. Hardy Limeback's change of position is based on numerous studies, published in highly respected journals, showing strong links between fluoridated water and: weakened, brittle teeth and bones (conditions known as dental and skeletal fluorosis); cancer, lowered intelligence and Attention Deficit Disorder, early aging; genetic damage; birth defects; auto-immune disorders; and more.
Fluoride used to be prescribed for over-active thyroids (hyperthyroidism) because it is so effective in shutting down the thyroid gland and now we have an epidemic of low thyroid. Just 2 to 5 mg of fluoride per day is enough to reduce thyroid function and people living in fluoridated communities ingest 2 to 7 mg of fluoride daily. And how many people are diagnosed with osteoporosis, when it is really skeletal fluorosis from a lifetime of being force-fed chemical fluoride?
Limeback is not the first fluoride expert to study the evidence and recant. In 1980, Dr. John Colquhoun, chief dental officer of Auckland, New Zealand, examined children's dental records to help promote fluoridation. To his surprise, he found fabricated statistics and errors - but no advantage at all from fluoridation. He eventually campaigned against fluoride.
In 1973, Dr. Richard Foulkes, then consultant to the British Columbia health minister, recommended mandatory fluoridation. It never happened, but almost 20 years later, he examined dental records and discovered that the teeth of children from non-fluoridated areas were healthier than those of children where fluoride was added to water.
Says Foulkes today: "A child's brain is vulnerable to damage from fluoride even before birth and the result can be lowered IQ ... Fluoride in drinking water may react with aluminum, to induce Alzheimer's disease."
Over 1100 scientists at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency who researched fluoride denounced fluoridation while their employer, the EPA, continued to support it. Former EPA scientist Dr. Robert Caxton, speaking on CBC TV's Marketplace in 1992, called fluoridation "the greatest case of scientific fraud of this century, if not of all time."
Despite what the media would have us believe, very few countries today still fluoridate. Less than 6% of the world's population receive artificially-fluoridated water. Germany, Finland, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, and Israel have banned fluoride. Vancouver and Montreal never bought into fluoridation. Limeback's research shows that people from fluoridated Toronto have double the fluoride build-up in their hip bones as non-fluoride Montrealers. Never-fluoridated Vancouver and Montreal have better teeth than Torontonians.
The European Union has now reached a 98% fluoride-free status with excellent, low rates of tooth decay, yet they do not add fluoride to their salt or water. According to the WHO; World Health Organization, Iceland, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Japan, Greece, Denmark, Portugal, Norway, and Belgium have no water or salt fluoridation.
In an effort to continue the promotion of water fluoridation, generally trusted agencies report that “as a result of water fluoridation, dental caries declined precipitously during the second half of the 20th century.” However, what they fail to mention, is that tooth decay rates have “precipitously declined” in ALL western countries; those both with and without water fluoridation - with the fluoride communities still having the most dental problems of the two.
“Although the prevalence of caries varies between countries, levels everywhere have fallen greatly in the past three decades, and national rates of caries are now universally low. This trend has occurred regardless of the concentration of fluoride in water or the use of fluoridated salt, and it probably reflects use of fluoridated toothpastes and other factors, including perhaps aspects of nutrition.”

“No increase in caries (cavities) was found in Kuopio (Finland) 3 years after the discontinuation of water fluoridation,” according to Caries Research (1). In fact, when Kuopio was compared to a similar never fluoridated Finnish town, cavity rates in both towns either remained the same or decreased six years after fluoridation was stopped in Kuopio.
Seven years after fluoridation ended in LaSalud, Cuba, cavities remained low in 6 to 9 year olds, decreased in 10 to 11 year-olds, significantly decreased in 12 to 13 year olds, while caries-free children increased dramatically, reports Caries Research (2).
East German scientists report, “following the cessation of water fluoridation in the cities Chemnitz (formerly Karl-Marx-Stadt) and Plauen, a significant fall in caries prevalence was observed,” according to Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology (3). Additional surveys in the formerly-fluoridated towns of Spremberg and Zittau found. “Caries levels for the 12-year-olds of both towns significantly decreased… following the cessation of water fluoridation.”
Not only did decay rates remain stable during an 11-month fluoridation break in Durham, NC, between September, 1990, and August, 1991 but dental fluorosis declined in children born during that period, according to the Journal of Dental Research (4)
In British Columbia, Canada, “the prevalence of caries decreased over time in the fluoridation-ended community while remaining unchanged in the fluoridated community,” reported in Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. (5)
In 1973, the Dutch town of Tiel stopped fluoridation. Researchers counted drilled, missing, and filled tooth surfaces (DMFS) of Tiel’s 15-year olds, then collected identical data from never-fluoridated Culemborg. DMFS initially increased in Tiel then dipped to 11% of baseline from 1968/69 to 1987/88 while never-fluoridated Culemborg’s 15-year-olds had 72% less cavities over the same period, reports Caries Research. (6)
A Canadian government report (7) shows similar results and offers a reason: Fluoridation was launched in the 1940’s when dentists believed fluoride’s beneficial effects were achieved internally, through the bloodstream then absorbed inside the teeth. The Canadians report that “this effect is likely to be minor…The evidence for a post-eruptive (topical) effect,... is much stronger.” (As confirmed by the CDC).
Children in fluoridated-since-1945 Newburgh, New York, have no less tooth decay but significantly more dental fluorosis than children from never-fluoridated Kingston, New York, according to Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology June 1999. Kingston/Newburgh is the only population study looking at adverse health effects of ingested fluoride.
A recent San Antonio, TX, news report revealed “After 9 years and $3 million of adding fluoride, research shows tooth decay hasn’t dropped among the poorest of Bexar County’s children. It has only increased—up 13% in 2010.”(8)
Another important thing to consider is the risk of poisonings if city equipment fails. It is not widely known, but over the years, the CDC has recorded several incidents of excessive fluoride entering the water supply and harming people. Although they do not disclose this information, under the Freedom of Information Act, many errors have been found. Here is just a partial list:
* In May 1992, 260 people were poisoned, and one man died, in Hooper Bay, Alaska, after drinking water contaminated with 150 ppm of fluoride. The accident was attributed to poor equipment and an unqualified operator.
* July 1993 – Chicago, Illinois: Three dialysis patients died and five experienced toxic reactions to the fluoridated water used in the treatment process. The CDC was asked to investigate, but they have never issued a press release.
* May 1993 – Kodiak, Alaska (Old Harbor): The population was warned not to consume water due to high fluoride levels. They were also cautioned against boiling the water, since this concentrates the substance and worsens the danger. Although equipment appeared to be functioning normally, 22-24 ppm of fluoride was found in a sample.
* July 1992 – Marin County, California: A pump malfunction allowed too much fluoride into the Bon Tempe treatment plant. Two million gallons of fluoridated water were diverted to Phoenix Lake, elevating the lake surface by more than two inches and forcing some water over the spillway.
* December 1991 – Benton Harbor, Michigan: A faulty pump allowed approximately 900 gallons of hydrofluosilicic acid to leak into a chemical storage building at the water plant. City engineer Roland Klockow stated, “The concentrated hydrofluosilicic acid was so corrosive that it ate through more than two inches of concrete in the storage building.” This water did not reach water consumers, but fluoridation was stopped until June 1993. The original equipment was only two years old.
* July 1991 – Porgate, Michigan: After a fluoride injector pump failed, fluoride levels reached 92 ppm and resulted in approximately 40 children developing abdominal pains, sickness, vomiting, and diarrhea at a school arts and crafts show.
* November 1979 – Annapolis, Maryland: One patient died and eight became ill after renal dialysis treatment. Symptoms included cardiac arrest (resuscitated), hypotension, chest pain, difficulty breathing, and a whole gamut of intestinal problems. Patients not on dialysis also reported nausea, headaches, cramps, diarrhea, and dizziness. The fluoride level was later found to be 35 ppm; the problem was traced to a valve at a water plant that had been left open all night.
Lifelong Accumulation of Fluoride:
The kidneys can excrete about 50% of our daily intake of fluoride but the rest concentrates in our bones and accumulates there over a lifetime. In children it is far worse; they can only excrete about 20% of fluoride. Fluoride can damage the connective tissue and cause symptoms very similar to arthritis. Further accumulation in the bones makes them brittle making them more vulnerable to fracture.
Health Canada’s reply to a 2014 FOI request for ANY gold standard studies, done anywhere, at any time, showing that H2SiF6 – the hazardous acid waste fluoridation chemical used in fluoridated communities was either safe or effective, was blank. Health Canada could not provide even one such study. Despite the lack of scientific data, Health Canada established a maximum acceptable concentration (MAC) of 1.5 milligrams per litre (mg/L) for fluoride in drinking water. Their optimal level for fluoride in drinking water is 0.7 mg /L.
Today, health officials always qualify fluoride's safety with the phrase "at optimum levels"
Biochemist Dr. John Yiamouyiannis says "The trouble is, the only safe or optimum amount of water fluoride is none at all."
"While no one is going to die from drinking one glass of Toronto tap water, just as no one is going to die from smoking one cigarette, it is the longer-term chronic effects of fluoride ... glass after glass ... that takes its toll on human health, says Dr. John Yiamouyiannis.
Government of Manitoba Water Authority States:
"In adults, high levels of fluorides consumed for a long period of time may lead to skeletal fluorosis. Skeletal fluorosis is a progressive disease, in which bones increase in density and become more brittle. In mild cases, the symptoms may include pain and stiff joints. In more severe
cases, the symptoms may include difficulty in moving, deformed bones and a greater risk of bone fractures. Ingestion of very high doses of fluoride may result in acute poisoning effects such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, drowsiness, coma, convulsions, and cardiac arrest."
... So, the older you get, the worse off you are, unless of course, you are exposed to a high level at an early age or accidentally swallow a high concentration via dental applications; in which case it will hurt you when you're still young.
QUESTION: Since this accumulates in our tissues over time; only being able to excrete 50% of it in adults and 20% in children, and we get so much naturally-occurring fluoride from food & drink (which is greatly concentrated when we cook or boil it), and also in toothpastes, mouthwashes, etc., is it really necessary to have an additional industrial chemical waste product force-medicated upon us, when:
#1) It is illegal / against our human rights as citizens?
#2) This experiment on people has been proven to be ineffective in combating tooth decay with no scientific safety data?

A Note on Calgary's Pro-Water Fluoride Media Darlings:
In early 2016, the expected backlash from fear-mongering parties began in the media. This happens every single time a community ends water fluoridation, yet; all cities and countries who do not, or have never fluoridated, never push to have it.
Calgary made media headlines with claims that tooth decay had increased since ending water fluoridation. This is very typical for a community to experience manipulated stories in the media, after the end of water fluoride. We never see this with Vancouver or Montreal, since they've never had water fluoridation and their teeth are better or the same as fluoridated cities, but it happens regularly to cities that discontinue the practice and join the majority of the world.
It does pass in time, since there is no causal connection between non-fluoridation and tooth decay. If ending water fluoridation was the cause of increases in cavities, then all non-fluoridated countries, including 98% of Europe, would have experienced tooth decay "epidemics" for decades. They have not.
The media attacks centered around a manipulated study that had omitted significant data:
** A true test of removing water fluoridation, would be to do so without public knowledge (just the same as it had been implemented in so many cases). That way, communities could truly see that it makes no difference, instead of consciously or sub-consciously manipulating results to fit their entrenched belief systems.
Inaccuracies about Calgary's tooth decay rates began soon after ending water fluoridation. Dr. Sarah Hulland, a Calgary dentist, regularly appears in the media claiming that Calgary's cavity problem has greatly increased since water fluoridation ended there in May 2011. Despite Sarah Hulland's repeated fear-propagating claims in the media, Calgary and its city councillors remain unaffected and are committed to keeping this chemical waste out of city water.
One of her claims was that "Tooth Decay Is Rampant in Calgary" after the ending of water fluoridation, but she has single-handedly proven that her claims are false.
In April of 2010, one full year BEFORE Calgary ended water fluoridation, she is on record in the media stating the real reasons for tooth decay:
"up to 40% of kids under five years old have cavities, and that number is growing at a rapid speed"
"in dentists' offices in the past five to 10 years, a progressive increase has been seen in cases of kids aged up to five with uncontrolled tooth decompose"
"diet is the center of the problem because there is high amount of sugar and salt content that is added in order to create addictive flavor"
So, while fluoride was in the water, cavities were "growing at a rapid speed" with "uncontrolled tooth decompose" - diet & sugar being the cause. But when Calgary ended water fluoridation one year later, suddenly that was the big reason with the big fearful headline "Dental Decay Rampant In Calgary Children Due To Ending Water Fluoridation" She has discredited herself and no one takes her seriously. Unfortunately, this pattern of negative PR, deceit, and other corruption has been persistent throughout water fluoridation’s history.
