Concerned Citizen started this petition to Branch County Commisioners

Due to recent events that were brought to light in the December 6th, 2018 edition of The Daily Reporter concerning the  statement prosecutor Smith made as quoted, "I don't care if she overdoses and kills herself. It would not be a great loss to society" (Reid, 2018)."

The people of Branch County demand reform in the local justice system as follows:

1. Prosecutor Smith is relieved of his position due to prejudice towards the population his position deals with.

2. All members of the Branch County government who deal with offenders interpersonally must obtain 10 credit hours of Continued Education concerning Drug and Alcohol treatment and prevention strategies every twenty-four months as a condition of employment.

 3. Branch County develops and implicates a "Drug Court" as described by the National Institute of Justice (Drug, 2018).

4. A committee that has representation from the health field, psychiatry, criminal justice, and peers from the Substance Use Disorder community, shall govern the process to make sure the courts comply with the demands of the citizens of Branch County.
