At RHS, the class periods are 90 minutes long. The 4 lunches are approximately 15 minutes long. 

if a student is having trouble with a class, they must go to the teacher before/after school, or during lunch. If the student has no transportation to or from school, they will not have time for before/after school tutoring. This means they will have to sacrifice the only 15 minutes they have as a break and time to eat. And even then, not much can be done within 15 minutes, and many teachers are unavailable during lunch. This is not in any way fair to students who do not have transportation outside of bus transportation. Busses get to school around 10-20 minutes before school (8:50, but students are instructed to go to class at 8:40), and many busses are at school right as school ends. 

considering how long the class periods are, it would be very easy to cut the class time and add a study hall period, where students can do work, get help, or if there’s nothing to do, just get a break. 

statistically speaking, study halls improve grades, mental health, and stress levels for most students. Students will have more time to relax and socialize after school, they will be able to get help, and they will generally be ahead on work almost all of the time.

Please help us make sure that students with no transportation can get help with school!!
