Jason Stephens started this petition to Ltisd school board and

As of 7/2/20, the LTISD superintendent, Brad Lancaster, sent out an email announcing that students have two choices for the coming school year: either full time, in person education, or full time online learning. Earlier this year, a parent survey was sent out to the families of LTISD students. This is the link to the results of said survey: https://www.ltisdschools.org/Page/3988 . In it, there was a proposed third option, referred to as the "Hybrid/Blended Learning Model", which would involve groups of students coming to school during alternating times, but it seems that the school board has scrapped this option. Based on the results of the survey, it is likely that most families will be choosing on-campus education, aka option one, for their children, which is extremely irresponsible. However, the survey also tells us that over half of respondents support an alternating day schedule if the Hybrid Model was to take place.

While the explicit purpose of this petition is to eliminate option one, I would like to propose a specific form of the Hybrid Model to replace it. This education system would involve having all core classes operate online, while electives take place in person. This would make it easier to schedule the alternating day system, as well as potentially allow less school hours, have more effective education, and a happier student population. As a member of the LTHS class of 2021 myself, I understand why so many students want to return to in school learning; they miss being with friends and participating in activities they enjoy, i.e. a sport, fine art, or other elective.

The lack of a mid ground option is putting thousands of people at risk of contracting and spreading the coronavirus. We must advocate for the elimination of the in school model, for the health of not only LTISD families, but everyone in Travis County.
