Hello Everyone,

My goal for this petition is to help get rid of the roots that have been uplifting the streets. For a long time the sidewalks have been lifting and pipes are often being broken because of the roots from the trees that were planted many, many years ago. Walking through the streets of Boyle Heights has become something that you wouldn't want to often do. The side walks are often left broken. The trees that are on the sidewalk have overgrown the roots are going very deep under creating many damages. The city has not allowed any property owner to cut the trees down because of rules that they have imposed and if the trees are cut down then people are often fined, and have the tree replaced (according to the rules). This has not been the only petition that has been around asking for a clean up that has been long overdue. However, hopefully with enough voices we are able to get something done about our community and help clean the streets that have been neglected. The worst feeling is walking through the community and noticing the neglect that it has brought, and also sometimes not being able to walk at all through the streets. In front of my house the sidewalk has been lifted up so much, that when someone walks on it people are often tripping and almost falling because of the cracks that have been created, and not only that it has caused pipes to burst and the city has made it the job of the homeowner to pay for the damages done by the tree. It causes blockages into he sewer system, and often great panic because of the roots being so close to the water and gas system. These trees need to be either removed or changed to something that will not destroy the sidewalk.
