#BoycottSXSW may refer international artists to immigration for playing unofficial shows

The SXSW contract says it will notify immigration authorities if international artists are found to be playing a show that’s not an official part of the festival.
SXSW has shown that nothing will stop it from protecting its brand - going as far as threatening their immigrant artists with deportations if they play an unofficial showcase.
On Thursday, March 02, 2017, news broke that, in its artists' contracts, the SXSW festival threatens to report international artists who perform at unofficial showcases to immigration authorities.
Take a moment to think about that.
Report. To ICE. Deport.
Any international artists who play both officially for their festival, and also play unofficial showcases (which everyone does, all the time, because it's part of the culture and official showcases are expensive AF).
The actual language in the contract is "accepting and performing unofficial events may result in immediate deportation, revoked passport and denied entry by US Customs Border Patrol at US ports of entry."
Apparently, this language has always been there, but no one bothered to look at or change it in the current political climate, with ICE detaining and deporting people by the thousands. Messaging that incites fear is never acceptable, no matter the climate.
Way to show your true colors, SXSW. Not that a lot of us didn't see them already, but damn.
We invite you to join us in having a #NoSXSW year this year. We are calling for all artists, entertainers, and attendees to #boycottsxsw until they address this hate against the immigrant community by REMOVING this from their contract and issue a formal apology.
We must put pressure on the line-up participating in this event and the organizers of SXSW to ensure that all immigrant communities are respected and treated humanely and that no artists risk deportation through playing unofficial showcases, a staple of the SXSW scene.
As Artists AND Fans, we can ~ and MUST ~ stand for better
We are calling for all artists, entertainers, and attendees to #boycottsxsw until they address this hate against the immigrant community by removing this limitation on artists from their contracts and issue a formal apology.
SXSW has organized a showcase featuring artists from countries included in the Trump immigration ban. If SXSW wants to throw a showcase and claim they're in solidarity with immigrants, that's fine. But to have that sentence in the artist contract, in this political environment, shows us that they're not paying close enough attention to the details of their would-be solidarity.
Message from the immigrant community-
As immigrants, we find this attack to be egregious and will not sit ideally by as our community is under attack. Entertainment should be an escape from Trumps America, but now we find ourselves asking what stage he will be speaking at? SXSW if you choose to ignore the immigrant community this year, we shall never forgive you. Why do you hate us?
