not even a question if there was full on racism about white american in a movie, wouldn't even be on the table like this. and asian americans and allies thereof stILL have to fight for this. thes e ills; too sad america.. this is what makes me ashamed of my own country. please please please please please do not reintroduce what was once held as classic, into the new millenia of people and families in public celebration that includes blatant racism against asian americans. please please do not do this.

There are a lot of great classic movies that haven't dated themselves so badly that communities today object to their portrayal. Show one of those instead.

By the way, why is the SyFy Channel (part of NBC/Universal) getting public money?

Mickey Rooney's Mr Yunioshi character is racist and offensive. Worst than Gedde Watanable's Long Duk Dong character in "16 Candles". Another racist "classic movie".

The litmus test that must pass is: would the BBPC even dare show any other type of racial caricature? (blackface, negative portrayals of Hispanics, etc.)

I was paid big bucks to play an uptight Asian with buck teeth. I think I did a damn good job! The movie grossed millions and won 2 Academy Awards for Best Song and Musical Score. It won the WGA award for best written film comedy of the year. You people are condemning a "COMEDY" made almost 50 years ago because of one VERY FUNNY scene? You should all be commited to the the not so FUNNY FARM...warm regards, ah so,
mickey

I never actually saw this movie, but I learned about it by watching 'Dragon The Bruce Lee Story'. In the film, Bruce Lee (played by Jason Scott Lee) is on a date with the woman he eventually marries. The movie they're watching is 'Breakfast At Tiffany's. When the scene with the racist Asian caricature comes on, everyone in the audience laughs hysterically.. everyone but Bruce Lee. When his future wife notices the expression on his face (he looked as though he'd just been stabbed in the chest).. she stops laughing, looks at the screen again, and sees the bigoted and racist portrayal for what it truly was.
Perhaps, (instead of 'Breakfast At Tiffany's') the BBPC should show the movie about China's Zheng He.. the admiral that commanded a fleet of gargantuan ships.. a fleet that was larger than all of Europe's great armadas.. combined. Opps, What am I thinking.. Hollywood hasn't made that movie yet.

Enough! Mickey Rooney as a Japanese American! I'm very sorry to hear it's a "beloved" film. By stone-heads? Ugh. Revolting. Truly hateful.
