The upcoming Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing, China in February 2022.

China has one of the worst human rights records in the world; from the genocide of Uighur Muslims and forced deportations of North Korean defectors, to live organ harvesting of prisoners and the abysmal treatment of its citizens during the COVID-19 crisis.

Canada is a country that respects and values human rights, with a deep cultural belief in upholding democracy and the rule of law. It is morally and ethically wrong that our federal government should endorse the participation of the Canadian Olympic Team at this year's Beijing games when such human rights abuses are occurring across China.

We therefore call upon the government of Canada to make a bold statement to the Chinese Communist Party and withdraw Team Canada's participation at the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
