Stop use of electronic devices at Boy Scout activities and campouts to combat pornography

Many young boys are being exposed to pornography and other inappropriate material because of electronic use during Boy Scout activities and campouts. According to BSA guidelines, scout leaders are instructed to have separate sleeping areas from boys for abuse protection, and that's leaving the boys unsupervised with access to the internet (and thus porn) on their mobile devices. During both overnight and weeknight scouting activities, devices are interfering with healthy interaction between scouts, and between scouts and leaders alike. There are BSA restrictions to possession and use of pocketknives, and we argue that phone, Ipods, and tablets are also dangerous weapons when misused and add nothing to a boy's scouting experience even when properly used. We are asking that scout leaders be instructed to collect all electronic communication devices for the duration of all boy scout activities, returning them at the close of meetings or activities, except in case of emergencies. Let us allow scouts to interact with the real world rather than the virtual world during scout activities, and end the threat of pornographic exposure and other cyber bullying that is occurring through electronic devices.
