United Methodists members and clergy (present, former and friends) urge the Boys Scouts of America to end their ban on gay scouts and leaders. As persons of faith we have long struggled with the hurtful exclusions of good people from boy scouting. Many of us have not been able, in good conscience, to sponsor scout troops because of their hurtful policy. Some of us have made agreements with our local Scout Council to ignore the National Policy and operate troops that do not exclude. This policy change will allow us to again embrace this wonderful program and assure that all God's children, straight and gay, are treated with dignity, love and the healing ministries of our churches.
