Culturally Responsive Teaching Course at BGSU

Culturally Responsive Teaching Course at BGSU
Why this petition matters
Education majors at Bowling Green State University need another course addressing culturally responsive teaching. There is a large divide in the political climate of this country due to racism and discrimination. Through educating our teachers, and making them aware of these issues, we can create safe and inclusive schools for our students.
The current diversity course in place at BGSU dives into great depth on poverty and LGBTQ+ family structures. However, this course only scratches the surface when discussing race, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds of different students in classrooms across America. For this reason, we need a second diversity focused course to teach culturally responsive teaching in regards to our students race, culture, ethnicity, religion and languages that may be different from our own. This will equip us as educators to make connections with our students and their families as well as respect their differences and educate our other students to accept others who are different from them.
